USING FIND AND REPLACE IN HJPAD 

The find feature allows you to search for specific text within a HJPad document as well as the ability to have that word replaced either automatically or when prompted.  

When Control+F is pressed a dialog box is opened and JAWS speaks Find and replace dialog: Find what edit. Note that there may already be text in the edit field of the dialog box as the previous  find string is  maintained until another  find string is specified.  In other words, the previous entry may be over written and replaced with the newly defined text.  

After you specify a string of text with in this edit field and press Enter, the first occurrence of the text you are looking for will be highlighted. The Find dialog box will remain open until you press the Escape key or select the CancelButton. 

While in the Find Dialog, Insert+C reads the highlighted word in context.  However, after pressing escape to leave the find dialog, you may use any of your navigating commands to review each occurrence of the text for which you are searching.  For example:  If you would like to review a specific word, Simply use the say prior word command.  Or if you are curious as to the context in which a particular word is being used, you may use such JAWS reading commands as SayLine or ReadToCursor.  Remember, when you press the Control+F key combination to continue your search, unless you specify otherwise, the search will continue from top to bottom so be sure and place your cursor back to the right of the Text you have just reviewed. 

Search and replace

The search and replace feature allows you to specify text that you would like to first look for and then replace with other text. 

Press Control+H to activate the find and replace dialog box.  The previously specified text will appear within this box.  Type in the word or phrase you are looking for and use the SayLine command to confirm that your entry is correct.  Tab once to the Replace edit field and type in the word you would like to replace the word or phrase in the Find What edit field with. You have just defined a string of text that you would like to search for as well as the text you would like to replace it with.  At this point you may ether press the Enter key and you will go to the first occurrence of the word you are searching for.  Press Insert+C to read the highlighted item in context. Tab to the replace button and press enter to replace the word.  

If you would like to replace all occurrences of a word or phrase within a document, simply define the text you are searching for in the Find edit field, define the word or phrase you would like to replace it with and press enter on the Replace All button.  JAWS will inform you that  the find and replace has been completed, and place your focus on an OK button that will return your focus to the find and replace dialog.  Simply press Escape to return focus to the document.
